Lanczos Pseudospectral Propagation Method for Initial-Value Problems in Electrodynamics of Passive Media
نویسندگان
چکیده
Maxwell’s equations for electrodynamics of dispersive and absorptive (passive) media are written in the form of the Schrödinger equation with a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. The Lanczos time-propagation scheme is modified to include non-Hermitian Hamiltonians and used, in combination with the Fourier pseudospectral method, to solve the initial-value problem. The time-domain algorithm developed is shown to be unconditionally stable. Variable time steps and/or variable computational costs per time step with error control are possible. The algorithm is applied to study transmission and reflection properties of ionic crystal gratings with cylindric geometry in the infra-red range. 1 email: [email protected] 2 email: [email protected]

Wave packet propagation by the Faber polynomial approximation in electrodynamics of passive media
Maxwell’s equations for propagation of electromagnetic waves in dispersive and absorptive (passive) media are represented in the form of the Schrödinger equation i∂Ψ/∂t = HΨ, where H is a linear differential operator (Hamiltonian) acting on a multi-dimensional vector Ψ composed of the electromagnetic fields and auxiliary matter fields describing the medium response. In this representation, the ...
متن کاملElectromagnetic Pulse Propagation in Passive Media by the Lanczos Method
Maxwell’s equations are cast in the form of the Schrödinger equation. The Lanczos propagation method is used in combination with the fast Fourier pseudospectral method to solve the initial value problem. As a result, a time-domain, unconditionally stable, and highly efficient numerical algorithm is obtained for the propagation and scattering of broad-band electromagnetic pulses in dispersive an...
متن کاملAnalytical D’Alembert Series Solution for Multi-Layered One-Dimensional Elastic Wave Propagation with the Use of General Dirichlet Series
A general initial-boundary value problem of one-dimensional transient wave propagation in a multi-layered elastic medium due to arbitrary boundary or interface excitations (either prescribed tractions or displacements) is considered. Laplace transformation technique is utilised and the Laplace transform inversion is facilitated via an unconventional method, where the expansion of complex-valued...
متن کاملAn improved pseudospectral approximation of generalized Burger-Huxley and Fitzhugh-Nagumo equations
In this research paper, an improved Chebyshev-Gauss-Lobatto pseudospectral approximation of nonlinear Burger-Huxley and Fitzhugh- Nagumo equations have been presented. The method employs chebyshev Gauss-Labatto points in time and space to obtain spectral accuracy. The mapping has introduced and transformed the initial-boundary value non-homogeneous problem to homogeneous problem. The main probl...
متن کاملPseudospectral vs. Finite Difference Methods for Initial Value Problems with Discontinuous Coefficient
An initial value problem with piecewise constant coefficients is considered. The accuracies for both finite difference methods and the pseudospectral method are analyzed, and a modification of the initial value problem is suggested. The modified problem is shown to have the same temporal period as the original problem does, and a second order accuracy is obtained for the pseudospectral method a...
